August 30th, has been marked as the International Day of the Whale Shark. Developed by ocean activists and conservationists to educate the globe on actions to reduce the decline of these stunning, and incredible giants of the ocean.

The images in this “celebration portfolio” are supplied by Conservation International’s VP for Marine Programs South Pacific, Dr. Mark V. Erdmann.  Many of you know him as the champion for conservation in the Bird’s Head Seascape.  Mark is constantly working to help educate and preserve not only whale sharks but entire reef ecosystems.  He’s a true Eco-Hero!
