The ReSharker News is now available.  The ReSharker Newsletter is the international communication newsletter of ReShark, an international collective effort to recover threatened sharks and rays around the world. “The ReSharker” is a quarterly newsletter designed to update ReShark/StAR Project partners and the public on the project’s most recent activities.

“We’re excited to share Issue 9 of The ReSharker, marking an exciting new chapter for ReShark with the addition of our second affiliate project, Shark Ray 360. Focused on the Critically Endangered bowmouth guitarfish, the initiative brings together more than 30 partners across four continents to advance coordinated conservation action for the species.

This issue also celebrates continued progress through the StAR Project. In Raja Ampat, seven more Indo-Pacific leopard shark pups were released, bringing StAR Indonesia’s total to 75 pups released since 2023. New satellite telemetry is revealing remarkable movements after release, including Edloma’s journey of more than 450 km from Misool toward Seram Island. Across Thailand, acoustic monitoring continues to provide encouraging evidence of post-release survival, with Similan now the project’s longest-tracked shark.

The issue also highlights new fin-mounted satellite tagging technology being trialed on juvenile leopard sharks, alongside continued upgrading of our nursery facilities, breeder network, and solar-powered infrastructure.

Beyond the field, ReShark had a strong presence at Sharks International 2026 in Sri Lanka, including a dedicated workshop on elasmobranch reintroduction, while a newly described walking shark from Papua New Guinea highlights the continuing discoveries emerging from the regions where we work.
