Saving the Leopard Shark-Deep Sea Reporter w/ Dr. Mark Erdmann
Administrator note: I recently became aware of Deep Sea Reporter. Their top-tier videos and reportage on ocean issues is world class. Check them out!
Earlier this year a Deep Sea Reporter team visited the Bird’s Head Seascape’s Raja Ampat to report on ReShark’s Leopard shark re-wilding project. Click the image or the link to watch the video which comprehensively and beautifully encapsulates the project’s effort to re-introduce a sustainable population of the sharks into the region.
“In Raja Ampat, Indonesia, marine life has made a remarkable recovery, thanks to the establishment of large marine protected areas. However, not all species have bounced back. It’s estimated that only 20 adult Indo-Pacific leopard sharks remain, severely impacted by overfishing. Can this species be saved? And why is that important?”
